News Article: Change is coming, whether higher education likes it or not
When it comes to the digital transformation of higher education, there is widespread agreement that universities must adapt, bringing in the skills and technologies needed to thrive in an era of mass online learning and artificial intelligence. With a handful of notable exceptions, however, the sector seems to find it hard to translate those words into tangible, radical change.

Universities in Aotearoa New Zealand are moving towards online education. Some a betting large (s.f. Massey University) that it will be the thing that saves the university and propels them into the future. This article speaks to one way on how to do it right, and some ways of getting it wrong.
An important point that is not covered in the piece is that digital transformation and on-line learning does not have geographical boundaries. This changes the state of competition and raises the stakes in getting this right. It allows people to live in one country and get a degree from a university in another.
