Opinion Piece: What can be done to challenge the rent-seeking behaviour of the academic publishing industry?
Under capitalism, there’s no “enough” switch on the profits from academic publishing. We can reveal this by thinking counterfactually. Imagine no one had complained about the escalating price of publishing. How much would we be paying to publish now? Unless we obstreperously protest the cost of publishing, what profits will BAP project in next year’s statement to investors?
