Opinion Piece: Conscience or commodity: What role now for our public universities?

As we face the prospect of unprecedented job losses at Massey, now more than ever we need to collectively support universities’ capacity to do what they do best: produce good research and teaching in the public interest, rather than tie their fate to a narrow commercial rationale that knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
