Opinion Piece: Massey University estranged from what was once 'student city'

Therefore, in Palmerston North, Massey should not be seen as a stand-alone institution set apart from the people of the city and wider region.

That means the people of the city and region are responsible for the well-being of the university as much as university management; a ‘’social contract’’ if you like.

Seem‍s to be a serious misunderstanding of the concept of social contract. It is the university management that has the responsibility for the well being of the university. The locals have no say, no sway whatever in the decisions made by management. Let's not pretend that they do.
