Troy Baisden is co-President of the New Zealand Association of Scientists (NZAS) and a Principal Investigator in Te Pūnaha Matatini Centre of Research Excellence. He is currently affiliated with Motu, an Honoary Professor at the University of Auckland, and actively working across collaborations to create more mobile and responsive solutions to environmental problems that work across scales. He came to New Zealand following his PhD in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at the University of California, Berkeley, and has worked at Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research, GNS Science, and the University of Waikato. He was a delegate and member of the Public Service Association’s National Science Committee. His scientific work has mainly involved models and measurements related to carbon cycling, climate change and water quality at catchment, regional and national scales. He also targets science and communication across the science-policy interface, and in science policy related to the environment. His NZAS presidency took particular interest in career tracks for early career scientists and progress on gender, diversity and equity issues and appropriate structures for funding, management and governance of our science institutions.
