Crises at universities are happening in other places too

‍The state of our public tertiary education systems could be described as shambolic. Many people have put in a lot of work understanding why that is. Much has been written about it as well. It is not happening in isolation only in Aotearoa New Zealand. Over the last several years, news articles have described similar situations in the United States, Canada, and the UK (amongst many others).

It is understandable that many who are directly impacted by the local problems are focusing on those. At the same time, it might be very helpful to look at tertiary education (and public research) across the world. This way we may be able to tease apart what are common global drivers from those that are specific to our situation here.
