Comment: A Strong and Resilient Research System is Built by Valuing People

It is always about the people. This is a piece that I wrote for the upcoming New Zealand Science Review. My motivation was to dispel some misconceptions that many of the public have about the working conditions of researchers in Aotearoa New Zealand. Some of the quiet parts are said out loud.

In between the time I wrote that piece and now, I have learned about The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). It is another resource that can be used to improve working conditions via appropriate assessment (as opposed to some of the metrics used now which are known to be b.s.).
