News Article: West Virginia's foreign language cuts could be a "blueprint" for higher ed attacks

This is a US news article. But WVU has nothing on VUW in terms of cutting language programmes.

While we are rightly focused on the devastation going on with our own tertiary education system, very, very similar things are happening across the anglosphere countries. Interestingly, they mostly shifted to the managerialism / neoliberal / students are customers / education is for individual rather than societal benefit model in the 90's (e.g. tertiary education as an industry. Much has been written about this model elsewhere, with the key point being that the economic ideology driving it does not do what it says on the tin and never has. Perhaps that should be part of our discussions around system reform?
