PhD Study Position: Universities’ responses towards embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and addressing systemic racism claims
From the page:
In recent years, universities in Aotearoa have faced public scrutiny due to allegations of casual, structural, and systemic racism. Despite well-intentioned references to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and stated commitments to incorporating te ao Māori, it has become evident that minimal efforts have been employed to address the deeply entrenched structures of institutional racism (McAllister et al., 2019; Smith & Jones, 2021). If the main articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi are fully realised, there will be a transformative focus of addressing Pākehā dominance within universities and growing mātauranga Māori as a legitimate form of knowledge. Moreover, every staff and student (including tangata whenua and tangata Tiriti) will be able to express a sense of belonging and achieve equitable outcomes.
Review of applications begins 1 September, 2023 and will continue until the vacancy is filled.
