Just Transitions Guide for Communities in Aotearoa New Zealand
There are many ways societies respond to challenges. It is clear that we are facing complex, far reaching challenges now such as climate change induced extreme weather events (like cyclones and heat waves), as well as an ongoing pandemic. More will come. How will we respond to these things? Will it be in a ways that are fair and equitable, or some other ways which are not?
The Just Transitions Guide from Motu Economic and Policy Research provides a set of tools to help make a transition to a future that responds to big challenges with fairness - sharing the positives and negatives equitably. In my view, the social and economic inequities which are so extreme today are exacerbating the causes of the big global challenges. I welcome ideas and approaches that can counteract the decades long move in the wrong direction. This work is one important piece in a process for a better future. It is going to take a lot of us, from many walks of life and experience, working together.
