Family Background
I grew up with three brothers in Germany.
I live with my wife and three children in Otepoti Dunedin.
Academic Background
I studied Biology at the University of Wuerzburg in Germany with and external Master's thesis at the University of Chicago.
I received a PhD from Arizona State University (USA), and had postdoctoral appointments at the National Institutes of Standards and Technology/National Institutes of Health (USA), Hokkaido University (Japan) and University of Otago (Aotearoa New Zealand).
I retired as a tenured Professor of Microbial Biotechnology (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) to start a company in Otepoti Dunedin.
