Understanding the benefits of urban nature will help to design better future cities.
Urban ecosystems such as parks and gardens provide critical benefits that make cities safer, more comfortable, and more pleasant places to live in. As urban populations grow and cities become more densely populated, these benefits will become increasingly important. To protect and enhance urban ecosystems in the future, we need to understand the benefits they provide.
A recent project has used satellite images and citizen science data to map the diverse benefits of ecosystems across Ōtautahi Christchurch. This talk will summarise some of the key findings and present an interactive web map for the city which enables users to explore the benefits of urban ecosystems in any location.
